I was a friend of Ed Edgerton's. I've had the pleasure of staying at Tatton Hall as a guest. I always stayed in the very top room with the round window. We always enjoyed the old elevator. He had panels in the dining room - each one a work of art. He would always say that if he ever hit on hard times, he would have those to sell. We would always have lunch at his favorite restaurant, The Holiday Inn which overlooked the city. He mostly kept in a small room to the right as you entered the house - it always struck me that he had a black toilet adjoining that same room. Ed was always wonderful company and would say that he earned his money the old fashioned way, "I inherited it".

  • Pleasant Valley Promenade Shopping Center, Lake Lynn Resident (guest) wrote 9 years ago:
Many of these retail and commercial properties have stood empty for months at a time, and I want to suggest that the vacancies are NOT primarily about demographics, income, or other location factors. This shopping center has had ups and downs in the past 10 years, but the overall trend is downwards, and for reasons that the property management could easily address. Aside from the parking in front of Gold's Gym, the owners/developers of this property have made a poor marketing decision to have a large NUMBER of parking spaces available, while keeping the SIZE of each parking space too small. As a result, many cars park over the lines, which means customers at any of these stores often walk into the establishments in an irritated mood. Not good for business. The worst parking spaces are around the Promenade's hub building (visible on the left as you drive in the main entrance from Glenwood Avenue. I have actually driven PAST those Starbucks and Bruegger's locations specifically to avoid the parking hassle, especially when I was pushed for time during a lunch break. Also, the property management's decision to allow a smoker's store (Vapes-R-Us, or something like that) so near to 4 or more healthy-lifestyle stores (Golfsmith, Golds Gym, A Step To Gold International Ballroom Dance, and KAST A Way Swimwear) shows just how desperate they are to fill empty units. And they gave the Vapes store the corner unit next to the under-utilized Promenade open space...are they encouraging the smokers to pull up chairs and puff their fumes right where the dance class customers will be walking up the stairs???? Don't they understand that stores which cater to smoking are NEVER attractive to non-smoking customers who would otherwise go to a high-dollar commercial or retail store?!? Look at the failure of 2 perfectly good restaurants and now maybe an anchor business (Kroger) at the Lynnwood Collection Shopping Center (Creedmoor Rd at Lynn Rd) for an example!

Its an ok Shopping center, They have a few cool restuarants which are on the expensive side. I heard the landlord from a few of the tenants is a greedy old man whom doesnt do his part to look after each of the tenants whom are paying over priced rent just to make the rent deadline.
